Frequently Asked Questions About Wreaths

Dried Flower Wreaths

Can I place a dried-flower wreath in sunlight?
Indoors: Keep away from direct heat and out of direct sunlight. (The light will fade the colors.)

Can I put wreath outdoors?
Yes but put your wreath in a sheltered spot to avoid wind and rain which will ruin dried flowers. If you live in an area with high humidity, do not put the wreath outdoors.

How do I clean a wreath?
Use a feather duster or very soft bristled brush to remove dust.

How long can I expect wreath to remain fresh?
You can expect dried flower wreaths to keep looking fresh for at least two years with reasonable care.

Balsam Wreaths

How can I determine if a wreath or tree is fresh?
The needles should be pliable under room temperature and should not be shedding. Look for brown or yellow needles which may indicate that the item is not fresh.

How do I know what size wreath I need?
You should measure the diameter (width) where you propose to hang the wreath. Once you have done so you will then be able to provide the exact measurements to any wreath maker. Wreaths come in standard sizes, with the most common outside diameter measurements of 20″, 24″, 30″, 36″, 48″ and 60″. Most front doors will easily accommodate a 24″ wreath, with the grander doors on larger homes able to utilize a 36″ wreath. A 36″ wreath is most suitable when hanging the wreath over a fireplace.

How should I care for my wreath?
Do not place your wreath between your outside storm door and main entry door, as this will overheat the wreath and cause it to turn brown prematurely.   You should place any wreath on the outside surface, whether it is your door, wall or automobile. The exposure to the elements (rain, sleet, snow) will actually extend the life of your wreath.

Which evergreen provides the best aroma?
The balsam fir variety provides what is often regarded as the most desirable aroma which people generally associate with Christmas.

How do I keep the needles from falling out of my wreath or tree?
If you are losing needles you are most likely exposing the wreath or tree to inhospitable conditions, like direct sunlight or heat. You should move these items to prevent any further deterioration.

Why you should not handle evergreen products below 20-degrees F?
These items become very brittle at cold temperatures below 20 F and they become like glass and are apt to ‘shatter’ if not carefully handled at these temperatures.

How do I store my wreath or tree until I am ready to display it?
The best thing to do is to store it outside or in a cold room. If it is outside you should lie it on the ground (in snow if possible)   out of the sunlight and wind.   By lying it on the ground it absorbs the natural ground moisture, improving its freshness.
